Real Madrid have qualified from 6 of the 9 knockout ties against English teams in the European Cup


The Whites have gone eight matches unbeaten against teams from this country. 

Real Madrid come up against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals with the previous results against English teams in their favour. The Whites have made it through in 6 of the 9 knockout matches in the European Cup against sides from this country. Amongst them, the last two ties against Manchester United in the 2012/13 round of 16 (1-1 and 1-2) and against Tottenham in the 2010/11 quarter-finals (4-0 and 0-1).The first encounter against an English team was in 1957 on the road to winning the second European Cup. Real Madrid knocked Manchester United out (3-1 and 2-2). Then in 1975, the Whites overcame Derby County in the second round with an historic comeback (4-1 and 5-1). The other two knockout successes for the madridista were both against Manchester United in the quarter-finals back in 2000 (0-0 and 2-3) and 2003 (3-1 and 4-3),

During this run, there were the two games against Manchester City in the group stages of the 2012/13 campaign. They are the only two occasions that the sides have previously met with the Whites winning 3-2 at home and drawing one each in the Etihad Stadium.
